Kirk Mettam has been involved in the practice of structural engineering and architecture throughout his professional career spanning 25 years. As Director of Robert Silman Associates Washington, DC office, he leads efforts to improve the local treatment and understanding of historic properties ranging from restoration to development through adaptive re-use methods and strategies. Mr. Mettam has managed critical engineering efforts for numerous historic landmarks in Washington, DC, and throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

Biography

Kirk Mettam’s experience extends to a wide variety of structure types ranging from new high-rise office buildings, retail and mixed-use developments, hotels, airports, bridges and sports facilities, to historic structures. He has maintained an active participation in the industry though his involvement with national committees and technical publications in the fields of structural condition assessment and the evaluation of the building envelope, and in academia, teaching courses in structural engineering and architectural technology.
