Historically used as a lumber storage shed, US Navy Building 173 (c. 1917-1921) consists of two freestanding sheds with a connecting roof supported on wood trusses. RSA performed an initial investigation of the structure, including an observation of the material condition and initial recommendations, and is currently involved in the adaptive reuse design of the Lumber Shed into ‘Pavilion 1’ - a two-level, 34,700 square foot, glass retail pavilion for The Yards Park riverfront park development on the Anacostia River.
