PS 233 is one of four small schools built in various neighborhoods to accommodate the needs of the surrounding communities. Designed to fit in a neighborhood of single-family residences, PS 233 was specially designed for mentally and physically handicapped students.

Structural features include:

  • New steel frame with poured-in place concrete slabs on precast plank floors.
  • Links that connect these new additions to the original structures at multiple elevations.
  • Expressed steel truss structure at various locations such as the cafeteria and gymnasium.
  • Production of an architecturally sensitive structure that is also within budget and time constraints.
