Lovejoy Lofts is an existing 48,000 sf structure with basement. The building was constructed as a DC public school in three different phases around 1901, 1907, and 1919 respectively. The three periods of construction appear to each be of a different structural system, load bearing masonry with wood framing, steel frame structure, and concrete frame structure. All buildings have brick masonry exterior walls, and sloping roofs constructed of timber framing. The renovation required converting the school to a residential property. Structural modifications included construction of two new infill areas on the west side of the building, the addition of attic floors for an additional level of residential units, and minor modifications to accommodate mechanical equipment upgrades and new dormers.
