
Deborah McGuinness joined Silman in 1994 and was promoted to Associate in 2001, followed by a promotion to Senior Associate in 2017. In addition to managing a studio, she works on a range of building types and has extensive experience and expertise with both new construction and renovations of private residences; higher education and K-12 institutions; cultural centers and museums; and places of worship.
Deborah is currently leading Silman’s team, in collaboration with MKA, on the new construction of the Ronald O. Perelman Center Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center in New York, NY. Other projects underway with Deborah’s leadership include the new Residential Colleges at Princeton University in Princeton, NJ, and the renovation of McGraw Hall at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
From 2013 to 2016, Deborah was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Pratt Institute Graduate Architecture & Urban Design program, where she taught “Structures I & II”. She has also been a guest lecturer at Parsons The New School of Design. Deborah is active in industry organizations, serving on the Board of Directors of the Structural Engineering Association of New York (SEAoNY) from 2008 – 2010 and as its Secretary from 2010 – 2011. She is currently a member of its Education Outreach Committee and volunteers for the SEAoNY Scholarship Foundation. Additionally, Deborah is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art.
