Ian Schmellick joined Silman’s Boston office in 2008 and was promoted to Senior Associate in 2022. As a Senior Associate co-managing a studio, he oversees a variety of project types from adaptive reuse of existing construction to new construction from residential, commercial, and academic institutions. His expertise in designing long span steel structures and complex steel connection detailing have led to innovative structural engineering solutions. Ian also helps lead the Silman Green Initiative, an internal group involved with promoting sustainable design within the office. He was actively involved in Silman becoming a signatory of the SE2050 challenge, a commitment by Silman and others to reduce and ultimately eliminate embodied carbon in their projects by 2050.
