Ecology and education meet on a corner in Greenpoint

Silman worked with architect Marble Fairbanks to design a new two-story library building on a corner site in Greenpoint. The structure's second story is rotated 90 degrees relative to its ground level, creating opportunities for three outdoor spaces: a ground-level entry plaza, a rooftop horticultural classroom, and a reading garden with native plants and a 1,500-gallon water retention cistern.

In addition to the library superstructure, Silman worked with the architect to design a rooftop solar panel system that is integrated into the mechanical unit support framing. The project has a LEED Platinum certification goal.
