Illinois State Capitol Dome

Springfield, IL

The Illinois State Capitol was constructed between 1868 to 1888 and stands today as an irreplaceable architectural icon for the state. At 361 feet tall, it is the tallest non-skyscraper Classical capitol building, exceeding the height of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.

In collaboration with a team of architects and co-consultants, Silman is performing an existing conditions assessment of the dome structure down to the main roof level. The study, which couples intensive on-site surveying of structural conditions with calculations and analytical modeling of the existing structure, will culminate with the production of a report with a detailed and prioritized list of recommended repairs for future preservation.
