The Illinois State Capitol was constructed between 1868 to 1888 and stands today as an irreplaceable architectural icon for the state. At 361 feet tall, it is the tallest non-skyscraper Classical capitol building, exceeding the height of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.

In collaboration with a team of architects and co-consultants, Silman is performing an existing conditions assessment of the dome structure down to the main roof level. The study, which couples intensive on-site surveying of structural conditions with calculations and analytical modeling of the existing structure, will culminate with the production of a report with a detailed and prioritized list of recommended repairs for future preservation.
