A comprehensive renovation of the four-block-long outdoor plaza on Fifth Avenue repositioned the fountains closer to the Metropolitan Museum’s front steps. These new granite fountains, which are operational year-round, are square in plan with an inset circle. Stone benches line the north and south edges of the squares.
The plaza also features tree-shaded passageways with two rows of large parasols installed parallel to the circulation for additional shade. Additional renovation work included the addition of energy efficient nighttime lighting and the replacement of existing pavement with new North American granite paving.
