North Fork House

Long Island, NY

This modern weekend retreat is constructed of concrete, steel, and exposed heavy timber elements. The house’s cruciform plan divides the interior spaces between four distinct gabled wings, with the two larger living and dining volumes facing an open courtyard.

The roof features exposed cantilevered rafter tails around the entire perimeter and a small terrace at its center. A load-bearing stainless-steel lattice wall encloses a porch and supports one end of the large roof projection at the tip of one of the wings.
